The NFL draft just ended a few weeks ago. Rookie training camps are just getting momentum and we’re able to see some interaction. Some player trades and negotiations are STILL going on.
The “pre-season” doesn’t even start until August. It’s mid-freaking-MAY!
Maybe I’m just THAT new to the fandom that I don’t get it (and I’m not a gambler so I don’t give a damn about spreads that make Vegas happy), but honestly… why?
Why are so many football fans, commentators, etc. jumping online to talk about predicted win-loss ratios for their favorite teams (or least favorite teams, for that matter)? I get it that fans-gotta-fan and they’re annoyed they have to wait months for the NFL season to get going again. I’m annoyed, too, but I’d rather support my team instead of going “oh, we’re gonna win X amount of games this season.”
Considering how much moving and shuffling is still going on with rosters, training considerations, etc. it just makes no sense to me to predict this stuff, especially right now. It makes about as much sense as predicting your kid is going to make all A’s in their next-level math class at a brand new school with teachers who grade differently and they haven’t even had a chance to open the textbook yet.
It’s no wonder I just keep going back to Super Bowl LIX highlights to watch and enjoy instead of the glut of predictions out there on YouTube and online. I love a lot of football hosts online, but I’m getting annoyed and steering clear of win-loss predictions. I’ll watch their other stuff instead.
I want the best for my Texans and to send positive vibes, not look at ’em as already losing a certain amount of games. I know we’ve had lots of losses in the past, and we’ll have other losses because that’s the nature of the game and teams changing and evolving every year. But I’d rather celebrate the possibility of improvement over the year before, of growth and team cohesiveness, of ensuring the rookies have a place in the team, stories of mentorship and having each other’s backs.
THIS is what I feel the off-season stories about our teams should focus on, not predictions that won’t mean a thing after the first coin toss and the first kick made of the first game of the season, anyway.

Other than folks who plan to gamble on the games, I don’t know why it would matter so much now. The ones who need to analyze their teams the most right now are the coaches, coordinators, and other team leaders.
Do you like weighing in on your team’s predicted win-loss scores, and if you do, could you explain why? I would like to understand. So, now…
