This one’s the Pentagon after the plane slammed into the outside. Of course, the more iconic images involve the Twin Towers in New York City burning.

Thousands of innocent people were killed 24 years ago today in the worst terrorist attack on American soil. New York, DC, and Pennsylvania held the remains of the planes and the people who were the first victims. The Pentagon and most of DC had to be evacuated after it got hit. The two largest buildings in the world at the time were reduced to rubble and remains of victims were hard to identify for weeks and months because the damage was so total.

image of what remained the the largest piece of one of the twin towers still upright after the 9/11 terror attack, ghostly facade of steel and concrete a few stories high that collapsed later.

And a certain person now in the White House insists the flags go to half staff the rest of the week because one of his ideological fellow-travelers got killed yesterday. The same person in the White House who bragged about having the biggest buildings in lower Manhattan after the towers fell, by the way.

I’m furious because I know far too many people who have forgotten their history (and 24 years doesn’t feel like “ancient history”, yet we don’t tend to learn from it) and they’re gonna assume the flags are at half-mast because of Charlie Kirk.

Nope. Remember 9/11 for the way the world changed. Remember 9/11 for when Americans were in shock and disbelief and discussed and mourned together, when people didn’t give a damn about political differences and came together to comfort and donate time, blood, energy, and help each other. We had EMPATHY and COMPASSION (things which, ironically, Charlie Kirk said make us weaker people and are made-up New Age concepts).

Remember what is true. Remember the truth. Remember what this nation went through on this day, and not what certain folks are trying to spin it into for their own agendas.

Be well, folks.
