The sucky part about being a re-newbie to sports fandom is missing SO many games because I don’t have a TV or subscribe to streaming services. The best I can get are highlights on YouTube, the sports page in my newspaper, or analysis from awesome Youtubers… all after the fact. And the “watch parties” are the best I can do in real time (when the energy’s positive, it’s FAR better than nothing… it’s just the fair-weather fans that drive me nuts).
RARELY do I get the chance to watch a game on TV in real time, and that’s when I’m busy at work, so I can’t pay as much attention as I’d like to.
But while I’m hoping for my Texans to do a turnaround (Stroud concussion AND a last-minute field-goal is the one-two punch that just makes you feel sucky… don’t rush recovery, Stroud), I started hearing more about my Rockets again, just a bit. But the momentum is gathering there and I think the basketball fans are coming back.
When we got the news that Kevin Durant was going to become a Rocket, it was probably half-skepticism and half-elation from fans I’d heard from and spoken to. I was more on the optimistic side, thinking he’d be more of a stabilizing influence, the veteran who has seen the court and still has tons of skill and athleticism in him who can help them get into a new groove.
I’m glad that optimism hasn’t been misplaced, and I’m not the only one who has noticed. I can’t wait to see more of this Rockets’ season. Fingers crossed that my Texans get into a groove and rebuild together (to be better, faster, stronger, etc. next season… and go out with some upset-creation this season at least).
